Plamen Atanassov started his career at the Central Laboratory of Electrochemical Power Sources of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from where he received a doctoral degree. He moved to US in 1992 and soon became a research faculty at the University of New Mexico. In 1999 Plamen joined Superior MicroPowders (now Cabot Corp.). He returned to the UNM in 2000 as a tenure-track faculty. In 2007 Plamen founded the Center for Emerging Energy Technologies and was its director until 2011. Since 2012 he serves as an Associate Dean for Research of the UNM School of Engineering.
