krishnaUNM notifed ECE Associate Professor Sanjay Krishna today that he has been selected to receive one of UNM's three 2009-10 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards.

Krishna received the news in a letter from UNM Provost Suzanne Ortega. The award "carries with it high honor," Ortega said, "and serves as recognition of your valuable contributions as a classroom instructor and leader at the University of New Mexico. You are to be commended for your accomplishment."

Ortega added that "Students and colleagues provided strong evidence that you have made a significant positive impact on student learning. Your commitment to the enhancement of teaching and learning has led to direct student benefit. The pool of applicants was very strong this year; you were clearly an outstanding applicant within that pool."

Krishna, the associate director of UNM's Center for High Technology Materials, in October was named a UNM Regents Lecturer by the School of Engineering.

Krishna will receive his award on May 6 at a ceremony in the Student Union Building. Ortega described the ceremony is a celebration of teaching excellence at UNM, saying "I am very pleased that you will be publicly recognized for your teaching achievements."

Award recipients are selected by UNM's Faculty Senate Teaching Enhancement Committee and a number of previous award winners.
