UNM School of Engineering Celebrates Students, Faculty and Staff in Awards Ceremony
May 16, 2011
The UNM School of Engineering handed out 26 awards to members of the school in a celebration that included a buffet lunch and music at the Centennial Engineering Building on Friday.
The awards celebrate work done during the current academic year and are a long standing tradition at the school. “We’re here to honor the students, staff and faculty that really stood out this academic year,” said Arup Maji, interim dean. “It’s an opportunity for all of us to get together on a beautiful sunny afternoon and enjoy each others’ company.” Approximately 450 people attended the event, including Professor Gruia-Catalin Roman, who joins the school as dean on July 1.
Two student projects were on display for the event: the 2011 Lobo Motorsports car, a formula racecar designed and built by students in a three semester class, and the steel bridge, a project created for a regional civil engineering competition.
