CE PhD Candidate Hossain Receives Award from NM Engineering Foundation
April 12, 2013
Mohammad Imran Hossain, a Ph.D. candidate in Civil Engineering at UNM, received the 2013 New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers award from the New Mexico Engineering Foundation.
Hossain’s research focus is understanding moisture-induced damage in asphalt pavements using numerical modeling. He has published in two journals and has presented four conference papers as part of his work under the supervision of Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Regent’s Lecturer Rafiqul Tarefder.
“I have a great deal of admiration for Mohammad’s punctuality and passion for education and research in pavement engineering,” Tarefder said. “I can attest to his uncompromising pursuit of excellence.”
Hossain received his B.S. degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 2003, then went to work for the Local Government Engineering Department. While he was there he received the Director General award in 2007 for his excellent service in government.
He returned to school in 2008 and completed his M.S. in 2009 from Ohio State University. Hossain began his Ph.D. work in 2010 at UNM.
