UNM makes strong presence at American Nuclear Society national meeting

The University of New Mexico Department of Nuclear Engineering played a prominent role in the American Nuclear Society national meeting, held virtually June 8-11.

Graduate students Andrew Hahn and Ragai Altamimi, Research Assistant Professor Timothy Schriener, and Distinguished and Regents’ Professor Mohamed El-Genk gave four talks on the results of ongoing research on the development of nuclear power plants’ cybersecurity platforms at a dedicated technical session titled “Cyber Security for Nuclear Power Installation-II.”

The Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Simulation (NICSim) Platform for investigating Cybersecurity Risk to nuclear power plants is being developed in collaboration with Christopher Lamb, a research assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at UNM, and his colleagues at Sandia National Laboratories. This effort is funded by a three-year award from the Department of Energy Nuclear Engineering University Program (NEUP) to the UNM Institute for Space and Nuclear Power Studies.
