Two School of Engineering advisors to present at national conference
June 11, 2024 - by Kim Delker
Two UNM School of Engineering academic advisors will share their extensive expertise with a national audience this fall.
Catherine Young, a senior academic advisor in both the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the Department of Nuclear Engineering, will present a session, and JJ Conn, a senior academic advisor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will present a poster at the NACADA 2024 Annual Conference, which will be held Oct. 27-30 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Young’s session is titled “Microsoft Excel for Advisors.” It will be a tutorial on several features of Excel that are applicable to academic advising. The session was also selected to be sponsored by the Technology in Advising Community NACADA community.
Conn will be presenting a poster titled “Taking the Trolley from AS to PhD: Conducting Multi-Level Advising.” It maps the processes and knowledge needed for advising a multi-level population (essentially working with high school students through the Ph.D. level), outlines the benefits for students in this approach, and addresses the issues that can arise when working with such a broad student base.
NACADA is a global organization that promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students.
