Undergraduates win awards at American Nuclear Society student conference

Four undergraduates in the UNM Department of Nuclear Engineering received awards at the 2024 American Nuclear Society (ANS) Student Conference, held April 4-6 at Penn State.
Lauren Bailey, Alexandra Martinez and Courtney Mace presented on their capstone senior design project titled “Model Development of a Hydrogen Cooled Multi-Pin Particle Bed Reactor” and won best undergraduate poster, beating out 28 other posters from 24 other universities. And Michael Trombetta presented on “Radioisotope Retention in Molten Lead for LFR Source Term” winning best undergraduate paper in the Nuclear Fuels and Materials track out of 10 undergraduate papers.
Next year, UNM will be host to the ANS student conference.
