Two School of Engineering students receive Tau Beta Pi scholarships
September 6, 2024 - by Kim Delker
Two seniors in the School of Engineering have been selected to receive scholarships from engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi.
Mia Baca, a student in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Moises Loya, a student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, are among 253 engineering students from 1,328 applicants nationwide to receive scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year.
Baca is receiving the Stabile Scholarship, and Loya is receiving the Skaggs Scholarship. Most recipients will receive a cash award of $2,000 for one year and a few will receive $1,000 for one semester.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. All Tau Beta Pi scholarship recipients must hold membership in the honor society. More than 4,400 scholarships have been awarded since the program began in 1998.
Tau Beta Pi, founded in 1885, is the world’s largest engineering society with 640,000 members and 257 collegiate chapters.
