InterPore2025 welcomes global experts in water and porous media to ABQ
May 6, 2025 - By Carly Bowling
Albuquerque will soon welcome global experts on water and other porous materials for the International Society of Porous Media 2025 Conference (InterPore2025). The conference, set to take place May 19-22 at Hotel Albuquerque, is the premier gathering of researchers convening to share groundbreaking advancements in complex and coupled processes in various porous media, including soil, rock, fuel cells, foam, biofilm, membrane, and more. Additional conference courses will be offered on May 18 and May 23.
InterPore2025 will explore a diverse array of applications, employing cutting-edge computational, experimental, theoretical, and machine learning methods to revolutionize geologic carbon and hydrogen storage, enhanced geothermal and oil/gas recovery, contaminant remediation, biophysics, manufacturing, and beyond. Topical experts from universities around the world will deliver talks throughout the conference. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the city, including a visit to Sandia Peak, a site tour of the Bear Canyon Recharge Facility, an Old Town walking tour, UNM lab tour, roundtable discussion on academic leadership, and more.
Through interdisciplinary collaborations and interactions among industry, academia, and research institutions, the conference will aim to spark new scientific discoveries and innovative practical solutions that will shape the future.
This year’s event is supported by The University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and New Mexico Tech University. The local organizing committee, led by Sandia’s Hongkyu Yoon, and co-chaired by UNM Engineering’s Maryam Hojati, New Mexico Tech’s Alex Rinehart and Los Alamos National Lab’s Hari Viswanathan, among other members, is eager to welcome participants to the city.
“Here, you will find a unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty that will inspire and captivate you. Immerse yourself in the vibrant arts, embrace the rich Native American heritage, and marvel at the stunning Sandia Mountains. Furthermore, indulge in the authentic flavors of New Mexican cuisine, especially the renowned Green Chile,” read a welcome statement from the local organizing committee.
The conference is open to students and professionals alike. Those interested in attending can register online.
