Postdoctoral research fellow wins 1st place in conference poster presentation

Angelea Maestas-Olguin, a postdoctoral research fellow in the University of New Mexico Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, won first place for her poster presentation at STEAM Summit 2025.
Maestas-Olguin presented a poster titled, “Rational Design of Silica and Lipid-Based Nanoparticles for Overcoming Barriers of Nucleic Acid delivery in Cancer Applications.” The presentation earned first in the postdoc poster presentation category.
The Southwest Transformative Educational Advancement Mentoring (STEAM) Network Program hosted its second annual summit in July in Flagstaff, Arizona. The network program supports training across several Hispanic- and minority-serving institutions for researchers interested in studying cancer health disparities.
This year’s summit hosted researchers from The University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and Northern Arizona University.
