Students, donors gather to celebrate success in Mechanical Engineering

The University of New Mexico School of Engineering recently hosted the Mechanical Engineering Scholar and Donor Luncheon to connect recipients and donors in celebration of student achievement.
During the event, attendees heard from Shuang Luan, associate dean for student affairs, Yu- Lin Shen, chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Victoria Udall, a student in the LoboMotorsports Program. The event honored all scholarship recipients in the department and recognized the importance of providing hands-on learning experiences for students. The first recipients of the Tim and Barbara Thompson Graduate Scholarship were also announced at the event.
Recipients of the new scholarship will receive $10,000 to pursue their master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at UNM. Tim Thompson (M.S. ‘90) spoke during the luncheon about his motivation to create a competitive draw for bright, talented students to pursue graduate studies at The University. He recognized the scholarship recipients for their dedication to learning and academic achievement.
Tim and Barbara Thompson Graduate Scholarship recipients honored at the luncheon included:
- Alex Atcitty, undergraduate senior in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
- Benjamin Gannon, undergraduate senior in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
- Jose Garcia, undergraduate senior in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
