7-26-12 -- As a tribute to his groundbreaking work in microwaves, Edl Schamiloglu, professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at UNM, was invited to give a presentation for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) 60th Anniversary Speaker Series on July 18th in Arlington, VA.

AFSOR selected outstanding members of the science and technology community who best highlight the importance of AFOSR's research contributions to give presentations throughout the year to celebrate six decades managing the United States Air Force basic research program.

An article written by Robert P. White, Ph.D. outlines Schamiloglu’s presentation and discusses the importance of his research (see below and on AFSOR’s website:http://www.wpafb.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123311105).

Schamiloglu’s presentation was on “Directed Energy Microwaves Research: Virtual Prototyping and the Paradigm.” He is the Director of the Pulsed Power, Beams, and Microwaves Laboratory at the University of New Mexico. His areas of research interests range from physics and technology of charged particle beam generation and propagation to high power microwave sources and effects.

Schamiloglu is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, a Fellow of the IEEE, member of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society’s Pulsed Power Science & Technology Committee, a member of the American Physical Society, and a member of the Cornell Society of Engineers.
