Cecchi to continue as dean of the School of Engineering
October 20, 2015 - By Melissa Vargas
After consultation with faculty and staff in the University of New Mexico School of Engineering, and with the appropriate university officials, Provost Chaouki Abdallah has announced that Joe Cecchi, current dean, will continue to serve as dean through June 30, 2017.
A national search for a new dean will commence in the fall of 2016.
"Dr. Joseph Cecchi is the best choice to continue to lead the School of Engineering, through the next couple of years as we go through accreditation and the remodel of the Farris Engineering building," said Abdallah. "His past experience in overseeing a large school in times of financial uncertainty made him the logical choice."
Cecchi, a professor of chemical and biological engineering, served as dean of the School of Engineering from 2000-09, and again from February 2014 to present. He also serves as associate provost for national laboratory relations.
"I look forward to continuing to serve the School of Engineering particularly to help position it for a successful national search for the next dean," said Cecchi.
