Taha elected as fellow of American Concrete Institute

Mahmoud Reda Taha, professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of New Mexico, has been elected a fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

TahaACI fellows are nominated by members and must have been a member of the institute for at least 10 years, including three of the last five, and must have made outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management. In addition, fellows are required to have made significant contributions to ACI through committees and/or local chapters. 

"This is a great honor that not only showcases Dr. Taha's excellence as a researcher, but it also demonstrates the overall excellence in the Department of Civil Engineering and the School of Engineering," said Joseph L. Cecchi, Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing at The University of New Mexico. "Such high honors are evidence that we are making great strides in the School."

Taha's research is focused on crossing the gap between structural and materials engineering for integrating nanotechnology, structural health monitoring and 3D printing in concrete and other composite materials to develop resilient infrastructure systems.

Taha will receive the honor at a ceremony in Detroit in March 2017.
