Two students from The University of New Mexico School of Engineering have been selected to receive scholarships from Great Minds in STEM, a nonprofit organization devoted promoting science, technology, engineering, and math to underserved communities.
Carlos Gutierrez, a sophomore in electrical engineering, and Ethan Sena, a freshman in mechanical engineering, were both named Class of 2017 HENAAC Scholars. HENAAC stands for the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation. Gutierrez received a scholarship from Chevron, and Sena received a U.S. Navy STEM Scholarship.
More than $419,000 was awarded this year to 109 students from around the country. The scholars will be honored during events this week in Pasadena, California.
