Senior student projects to be on display during Engineering Expo IV
April 26, 2018 - By Kim Delker
The University of New Mexico School of Engineering is hosting its fourth annual senior design expo on May 4, featuring projects from more than 200 students from all departments in the school.
Engineering Expo IV will be held 2-5 p.m. on the first floor of Centennial Engineering Center. Free parking is available for participants in the P lot on the northwest corner of Central and University.
Students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, and corporate sponsors are invited to attend.
Before the event, an annual appreciation luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. in the Centennial Engineering Center Courtyard. All students, faculty, staff, and Expo guests are invited to attend.
The Expo will feature student senior design project posters, displays, demos, and an elevator pitch competition.
Jamie Gomez, a lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, is organizing the event. Although all students in the school are expected to complete a capstone project their senior year, she sees this event as more than a requirement.
“This event offers benefits for both students and participants. Students can strengthen their skills in presentation, networking, and in explaining their research to different types of people, including potential employers,” she said. “The Expo also provides employers a perfect opportunity to meet graduating students who may be a match for positions in their companies.”
A brief awards ceremony will be held at the end of the event, and cash awards will be given to winning teams and individuals.
Those interested in being a judge for the event can contact Courtney Holmes at courtg@unm.edu.
