ECE student, professor wins best paper award

A group from The University of New Mexico’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering won a best paper award at an international conference this summer in Poland.
Mohamed A. Aref
Mohamed A. Aref, a Ph.D. student working with Professor Sudharman K. Jayaweera, was lead author of the paper that won the award at the 14th EAI International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks (CROWNCOM) in June.
The paper’s title is "Spectrum-agile Cognitive Interference Avoidance through Deep Reinforcement Learning,” which details a spectrum-agile wideband autonomous cognitive radio that is capable of avoiding interference and jamming signals.
