July 21, 2021 - by Kim Delker
The University of New Mexico’s student section of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) received a third-place 2021 Samuel Glasstone Award, given annually to the most outstanding ANS student sections in the country.
In 2019 and 2020, it received first place and the chapter was second place in 2018.
The award includes a $300 prize. Christopher Perfetti, an assistant professor nuclear engineering, has been the faculty advisor for the group the last three years.
The ANS student chapter conducts a variety of activities throughout the year, including hosting professional development, social and outreach events, and showcasing their technical excellence at professional conferences. Examples of ANS student events include coding boot camps, technical seminars and helping Girl Scouts earn their “Get to Know Nuclear” Badge.
