AFRL/Space Force Day at the School of Engineering planned for February 4

The UNM School of Engineering is holding an event geared toward faculty in the School and as well as STEM-related departments elsewhere on main campus who are interested in learning more about research opportunities with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

A presentation will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the Larrañaga Engineering Auditorium in Centennial Engineering Center. Representatives from AFRL will be on hand to give brief presentations on research opportunities at AFRL and answer questions.

Planning to attend from AFRL are Matt Fetrow, technology outreach lead; Amber Anderson, an engineer; and Matthew O'Brien, technology engagement branch chief.

Afterward, there will be a reception from 4-5 p.m. at Q-Station at 3225 Central Ave. NE, where faculty can network with AFRL representatives.

The School of Engineering has been fostering a stronger relationship with AFRL for several years, said Edl Schamiloglu, associate dean for research and innovation. One way is through a Connect with AFRL website where faculty from anywhere on main campus can submit information about their research interests and even upload a CV and academic papers, selecting areas of research that align with AFRL areas of focus. Once a form is submitted, it will be routed to relevant researchers within AFRL. The password-protected site can be accessed from the engineering.unm.edu website by clicking on the Research tab at the top, then selecting “AFRL Partnership” from the drop-down menu.

Schamiloglu said AFRL has a lot of opportunities for collaboration and funding of faculty research currently and more opportunities are expected in the coming months.
