UNM Rainforest Innovations is organizing this year’s two-day Lobo Hackathon, where teams collaborate to create an idea to solve a challenge for a chance to win money to help commercialize their idea.
The event will be held April 13-14 at the Lobo Rainforest Building, 101 Broadway Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. Teams can build or refine an idea that sets out to address a problem, utilize a technology or create something new. The Hackathon is open to students, faculty, staff, entrepreneurs and others in the community.
After teams develop their idea or technology, they give a final pitch where teams will present their ideas to a panel of judges for the chance to win cash prizes. The prize pool total is at least $25,000.
The program will 6-10 p.m. April 13, from and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 14.
The first day will feature introductions, information on how to pitch an idea and team formation. On Friday, teams will be involved with prototype development, business model development and the development of their pitch. Final five-minute pitches to a panel of judges will be at 7 p.m., with winners announced at the end of the night.
More information, including registration, is available online.
For those interested in mentoring, mentors and skilled experts from all disciplines are needed for the event. Mentors can assist teams with their subject matter expertise and experience while enhancing their own skills as leaders, educators and communicators by guiding rising talent.
