Student teams win prizes at Engineering Expo VIII

On May 5, the School of Engineering hosted Engineering Expo VIII, an event that showcases senior design projects to corporate partners and includes a poster competition and elevator pitch contest where winning teams win cash prizes.

The event was held in Stamm Commons and the Larrañaga Engineering Auditorium in Centennial Engineering Center.

Jamie Gomez, a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, organizes the annual event, along with staff from the Engineering Student Success Center.

The following teams received cash prizes for their projects:

Poster contest

First place: Conversion of Corn Stover to Ethanol in Iowa, USA. Team members: Mia Heredia, Ngoc Nguyen, Van Nguyen, Emily Robinson, Johanna Tsala Ebode.

Second place: Stratos Drone Control. Team members: Nicolas Ross, Jake Gonzales, Andrew Rodriguez.

Third place: Portable Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. Team members: Solomon Attcity, Alexandra Kozai, Carlos Loera, Nicholas Phelps, Samuel Schrader, Kevin Simms.

First place: Conversion of Corn Stover to Ethanol in Iowa, USA. Team members Mia Heredia, Ngoc Nyugnen, Van Ngygen, Emily Robinson, Johanna Sala Ebodi.

Second place: Next generation Firefighter Communications. Team members: Tiamike Dudley, Grant Guttromson, Tzion Cestillo, Nikko Ruiz, Lukas Wick, Rachel Kahler, Joel Guzman (UT Dallas).

Third place: Hydrogen Production by Ammonia Cracking and Purification for Fuel Cell Vehicles. Team members: Esteban Baca, Cooper Bryan, Melinda Bunyard, Eric Cruz, Shantae Gallegos, Christine Gleicher.

Judges for the posters were Amber Dy, Amelia Bierle, David Reicher, Ember Sikorski, Jay Lofstead, Jesse Fowler, Jim Sipos, Jospeh Connelly, Josh James, Joshua Gilbrech, Kaella Alvarez, Kevin Dilley, Mojgan Maadandar, Philip Scruggs, Richard Martinez, Suresh Parvatoja, William Maxwell and Zinah Alsaad.

Judges for the pitch competition were Anjali Mulchandani, Charles Sullivan, Chuck Finley, David Cochrell, Heng Zuo, Jeffrey Ivie, Jesse Crawford, Lok-kun Tsui, Marisa Ortiz, Paula Dodge-Kwan, Susan Johnson and Teresa Hilland.
