Welcome to the 2023-24 school year from Dean Riley
August 20, 2023
Whether it’s in the classroom, office, lab or in the field, the work we do in the School of Engineering is nothing short of transformational — for our students, their families, and their communities. Together, we improve our built environment, enhance national security, advance human health and prosperity, and imagine new realities for an ever-evolving planet.
As we begin another semester, I invite each of you to take a moment to remember why we do this work — what inspired each of you to pursue a career in academia and in particular at UNM — and know that your work here is valued and appreciated by me as well as those on campus and far beyond.
I’m looking forward to working with you in making the School of Engineering a great place for everyone to thrive and shine.
And speaking of making the School all it can be, I would like to introduce you to the draft of the new School of Engineering mission and vision, which was recently crafted after some strategic visioning sessions with faculty and staff. These sentiments will provide a glimpse into some of the priorities that will be featured in the strategic plan we will be putting together over the coming academic year. As always, your feedback is appreciated and welcomed. Feel free to reach out to me at riley1@unm.edu.
Again, thank you for all you do, and best wishes for a peaceful and productive semester.
