Moving and growing: Second faculty research support officer joining School of Engineering
October 13, 2023 - by Kim Delker
To accommodate the growth of the School of Engineering research activity in the last several years, a couple of big changes are in store in the School’s faculty research support structure.
Beginning Oct. 16, Marcus Panozzo joins the School of Engineering as a faculty research support officer (FRSO). He joins Isela Balli, who has worked in that capacity for the School since 2016. Due to the growth in the dean’s office, both Isela and Marcus will be located on the second floor of Centennial Engineering Center in the Engineering Student Success Center suite. Isela’s office is 2092E and Marcus’s office is 2092F.
Marcus is rejoining the School after taking a senior contract and grant administrator position earlier this year in the UNM College of Population Health. Before that, he was an accountant in the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering since 2015. Previously, he worked as an accounting assistant in the School of Architecture and Planning.
He holds a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from UNM’s Anderson School of Management. Both FRSOs report jointly to Steven Graves, interim associate dean for research and innovation in the School, as well as to staff in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
FRSOs assist researchers in developing the non-technical portions of proposals, including evaluation and data management plans, project management plans, statements of significance or broader impacts and compelling project summaries. The FRSO can also advise researchers in collaborative planning, grant seeking, budgeting, agency policies and navigating the University proposal submission process.
For questions or assistance with research proposals, faculty are encouraged to submit a proposal support request. Isela can be contacted directly at iselab@unm.edu or (505) 277-5758 and Marcus can be contacted at panozzo@unm.edu or (505) 277-8716.
