Atanassov interviewed for Electrochemical Society video
August 19, 2015
Plamen Atanassov, a Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of New Mexico, was interviewed about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Award he received in 2014. The interview appeared in the Electrochemical Society's blog.
Atanassov was awarded $70,000 for a project called "Artificial Biofilms for Sanitary/Hygienic Interface Technologies Interfaces." The goal of research is to produce bio-catalytic septic cleaning materials that incorporate microorganisms removing organic and inorganic contaminants while simultaneously creating electricity (or hydrocarbon fuel) for energy generation in support of a sustainable and portable system.
Atanassov, an internationally-recognized expert on new materials and technology for electrochemical power sources, is also the director of UNM's Center for Micro-Engineered Materials.
