Schamiloglu receives inaugural IEEE Kristiansen Award

Edl Schamiloglu, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and associate dean for research and innovation at The University of New Mexico School of Engineering, received the first-ever IEEE Magne “Kris” Kristiansen Award for outstanding contributions in experimental nuclear and plasma science.

The Kristiansen Award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions in experimental nuclear and plasma science with preference given to areas within the broadest scope of plasma sciences encompassing the generation of strong pulsed electromagnetic fields including their interaction with plasmas and other pulsed power applications. The award comprises a plaque and a $2,000 prize.

Schamiloglu is also special assistant to the provost for laboratory relations at UNM. His research focus is in high-power microwaves, pulsed power and plasma physics, and his is considered one of the top high-power microwave researchers in the country.
