The University of New Mexico will host the 2020 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Gulf-Southwest (GSW) Section conference.
The conference will be held March 25-27, 2020, at the Albuquerque Marriott in Uptown.
The theme of the conference is "Engineering Engineering Education (E3): Innovations in the Classroom and Beyond.” Professor Tariq Khraishi, from the UNM Department of Mechanical Engineering, is the chair of the conference.
The following topics will be explored at the conference:
- Innovations in Online Engineering Education
- Innovations in the Classrooms and Laboratories
- Curricular Design and Re-Design
- Outreach to Community Colleges and K-12
- Engineering Leadership, Ethics and Character
- Increasing Student Engagement
- Preparing the Future Engineer
Registration is now open, with early registration continuing through Jan. 29, 2020. However, the deadline for abstract submission for a conference presentation is Nov. 1, 2019.
The ASEE GSW Section is one of the most active ASEE sections in the country, Khraishi said, representing ASEE members in New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana.
Through the Gulf-Southwest Section, members participate in professional activities at the local level and form regional networks of educators with common interests and goals. Section activities include conducting an annual section conference; conducting workshops and professional development activities for faculty members and administrators; sponsoring awards for professional excellence; and issuing newsletters.
Faculty members from New Mexico Tech and New Mexico State University are assisting Khraishi with organizing the conference.
