Sandia, UNM sign agreement for nuclear security education, research collaboration
November 12, 2020 - by Kim Delker
Sandia National Laboratories and The University of New Mexico have signed a memorandum of understanding to offer a collaborative program in nuclear security at UNM.
The agreement addresses a growing need for experts in the nuclear security field. Sandia will partner with UNM under the primary sponsorship of the National Nuclear Security Administration Office of International Nuclear Security to establish a formal academic program in nuclear security housed in the UNM Department of Nuclear Engineering.
It is anticipated that the agreement will emphasize collaborative advantages from in-residence, semester-based courses at UNM, give students on-the-job training, create a pipeline of trained students in nuclear security professions and advance technical solutions for nuclear security.
