Society of Women Engineers receives ASUNM commendation
March 30, 2021 - by Kim Delker
The University of New Mexico chapter of the Society of Women Engineers received the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico’s Joint Commendation that was passed at the March 10 full senate meeting.
The ASUNM commendation congratulates the student leadership team for their efforts in the Art of Science outreach event, which is an event for local middle school-aged girls that offers hands-on activities like circuit building and projects involving mechanical and chemical engineering skills. It noted that 81 students participated in the in-person event in February 2020 and the virtual event in February 2021 featured 36 girls. This year’s event was held in conjunction with the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails and the UNM chapters of the American Nuclear Society, the Hispanic Engineering and Science Organization, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
“ASUNM applauds the efforts of the UNM Society of Women Engineers and its partnered organizations to provide experiences of quality and inspiration for students of all ages who are interested in scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical (STEM) fields, as they are doing well to represent their organization,” the commendation states.
